A set of TEN original documents from the WWII Period Germany and occupied territories that the students will need to first translate using and online translator, then work out what the document tells them about life in Germany during WWII.
Such items as a Reichsbahn train trip to Poland, Red Cross document from Berlin, a Polish man's forms applying for food rations, a letter from a German soldier on the Russian front to his family back home, Pension applications forms and the most profound, a registration for for a Salesman in the Arian society in Warsaw.
Here is a chance for your student to literally shake hands with the past examining documents once held in the hands of the individuals working, living and trying to survive in War Torn Europe.

Artefact Handling Kit - WWII 2G


A group of 9 original documents from World War 2 Germany. 

These include various documents including Birth/death/Marriage certificates, Hospital and health documents and identification papers. All are written in German. One of the documents in this group is a marriage certificate of a Polish couple married in 1942 under the auspices of the German Reich. The husbands surname is Kalinowski. The Kalinowski name is the name of a Polish noble family. Could he be decended from nobility and what are a Polish couple doing being married in 1942 in the middle of intense fighting? Included are a 1  and a 5 Reichsmark note from the German occupied island of Guernsey. During the war, the channel islands were the only part of Britain occupied by the Germans. The British currency was taken out of circulation and these Reichsmarks were issued for use by the Wehrmacht. The object of this kit is for the class to break into groups and for each group translate their document using an online translator. They will need to work out what the document is and research more about it and its ramifications in the larger picture of World War 1 in respect to life in Germany during the war.

Each group of 1-3 students can handle an original document and to aid research a CD containing over 60 original documents will be included with the kit. The teacher can print copies of each groups' original for the students to take away for research.

The CD includes documents from WWI and WWII as well as other information such as photo files of Seals of the Reich, Currency of the Wehrmacht in the German occupied Channel Islands and others.

World War II HMAS Sydney related Officer Act of Bravery Family File collection


This is a file collection collected by a family member of an Australian officer who was awarded the DSC for getting the disabled Destroyer "Vendetta" out of Singapore 

and back to Melbourne. He also served on HMAS Parramatta and HMAS Sydney being transferred from the HMAS Sydney just before in sank.
