Hesire was the royal overseer of scribes during the period of Pharaoh Djoser. He lived 2700-2650BC and held a highly exalted position, his burial mastaba containing various panels displaying his image and information about him. This plaque shows him holding the tools of his trade: the pen holder, palette, and accessory bag, as well as a long staff and a scepter of his authority. He was also a dentist or overseer of dentists. The hieroglyphs above his head show the sign for scribe. This a reproduction of one of six panels found in his mastaba. 70x195mm.
