Hands on HISTORY....
That is what we are all about!
Why use our products?
Hands on activities enrich the students learning processes.
They provide a means for moving the student beyond the standard classroom learning environment.
They allow Ancient History and Archaeology to be presented in a
variety of ways.
Coupled with regular classroom exercises, they allow for various learning styles and capabilities to be stimulated and so create an atmosphere where all students can work to their maximum potential.
They provide the student with structured visual and tactile experiences by stimulating multiple senses. They provide hands on discovery and coupled with lesson exercises stimulate inquiry processing.
The idea is to stimulate the students to learn rather than forcing them to learn......
Bring Ancient History alive.......

Antiquities of the Ancient World
Excavate a Genuine Artifact from the Ancient Roman World!
Excavate genuine artifacts from the Ancient Roman World in these single interactive Archaeology Kits. Each kit has one or more genuine Roman antiquities that you will need to excavate, carefully clean and restore if necessary. You must then research what you have excavated. The kit comes with Research/Report sheets.
This kit contains low grade antiquities that have been found across Europe, the Middle East and the UK, most found by metal detectorists. Most of the items are bronze fibulae, rings, coins and decorative items that would have been used on Roman armour or worn as part of clothing. Some kits have multiple items, some have single and some items need restoring.
A sample would be one coin and one ring. The kits are buried in a modified soil mix designed to minimize any damage and to make excavating reasonably easy. The kits are available in very limited numbers as access to these sort of genuine antiquities is very restricted.Naturally every kit will have different items. The kits come with a research/worksheet and excavation brush/tool. Each kit is 120mm D x40mm H. Single kits can be boxed if they are intended for a gift. Pottery Handling Kit MG1
A set of12 Pottery Shards Late 12th - 13th Century
Medieval Grimston Ware:
Grimston ware is a dark blue-grey, medium sandy fabric, occasionally oxidised on one or both surfaces, with occasional coarse ferrous inclusions. Most of the products which traveled some distance from the source, in north-west Norfolk, were green-glazed, but unglazed wares were also produced for local consumption. Grimston is best-known for its face jugs, a popular form in medieval Britain. These jugs were decorated with applied pellets and strips on the body, and applied bearded faces and arms on the neck and rim.

This set comes with the 12 pottery shards and a printable archaeologists worksheet.
We assume you as a teacher have a basic understanding of ancient pottery.
Ideally the classroom could be broken into 12 groups that would each examine an allocated piece of the pottery and find out what they can learn from it.

"The Treasure Ships of the Caribbean"

Explore the fascinating field of Marine Archaeology in the New World as you excavate lost coins from the Spanish Fleet.
Each kit comes with reproduction gold/silver coins that were minted in the New World by the Spanish in an attempt to bring back gold to Spain. Many ships were wrecked off the coast of the Caribbean and the Florida coast by both storms and poor preparation.
Laying at the bottom of the sea is a wealth of gold and silver still being explored today by Underwater Archaeologists. Though this field has similar disciplines to land archaeology there are considerable differences, but much information has been gained over the years not only about shipwrecks but also about cities that have been claimed by the sea, in such places as Alexandria in Egypt and Caesarea on the coast of Israel.
The kits come with instructions, research sheets for your excavated antiquities and also a research sheet to encourage students to investigate the history of Marine Archaeology.

The Tombs of Egypt
Imagine....
Your class had been contracted by a major research institute that has discovered a new tomb in the Valley of the Kings.....They have discovered the tomb late in the season....it must be excavated before the season finishes or else the winter rains could destroy anything that remains......
The excavation team requires your assistance....due to a shortage of volunteers and the short time remaining they have removed a series of small blocks of soil from the entry chamber to the new tomb. Their request is that you issue each of your students one block each and have them carefully excavate each block, examining what they find, researching their discoveries and send their reports back to them to collate. (That is you their teacher!)
While they are at it they must make sure your whole team (your class) is familiar with everything that each member has found...they will need to prepare a report and present their findings to the team (yes your class).
The tomb has been robbed in antiquity....but there are many exciting objects buried in the rubble....Statuettes of the gods, Ushabtis to serve their master in the afterlife, scarabs and jewelery. Much is in good condition some are damaged and need your careful restoration. Statuettes need to be cleaned and repaired, jewelery needs to be re threaded (the string doesn't last long buried for thousands of years and the items can be displayed for all to see.
A great hands on activity for the classroom. Suitable for years 7 and 8. Each student receives a block of soil (variable in size)that has one item buried within and a combination brush/excavation tool to excavate. You the teacher receive a CD with instructions, printable worksheets and Powerpoint presentation. The Powerpoint presentation is helpful to wet the students appetite and to prepare them for what they may find.

HOW THEY WORK:
Each Kit compises a block of soil in which is embedded a replica antiquity.
The object of the lesson is to carefully excavate the antiquity, clean and restore as would a museum conservator. The item then needs to be identified (teachers are given identification sheets), and then researched. Each student would then do an oral presentation describing the antiquity he/she has excavated. The class then does a report identifying and discussing what they have learnt from the civilisation from which the whole class has excavated. Kits can be purchased by the students as an option to an excursion, allowing the hands on activity to be available within the school and allowing each student to retain the antiquity they have excavated.
These kits are made based on museum artifacts, and are faithful replicas of the originals . Each item has been made based on the originals, some made by potters and artisans using techniques from ancient times and when excavated are a fascinating look into life ancient life. These kits give you a hands on lesson in archaeological excavation, research and artifact conservation as well as giving you an item that you can use for ongoing lessons on ancient history.
Instead of taking your students on an external excursion why not bring the excursion into the classroom. Instead of the students spending the money on an expensive excursion, they can have a hands on lesson in the classroom and have an ancient artifact to take home!
NOTE:
All these kits are hand made here in Australia. They are only available in limited numbers so make sure you allow plenty of time in planning your project. Please contact us with your order first to check for availability.
